Biodegradable foam — the sustainable alternative to plastic.

Absolute Cold Sustainable LLP has developed a bio-based polymer composite that expands and insulates like conventional particle foam — built instead from agricultural waste-derived carbon and vegetable oil, and engineered with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Our technology

A Biodegradable foam, without the use of petroleum.

Our India-patented process synthesizes a bio-based polymer composite capable of true thermal expansion. It replaces the petroleum feedstocks used in conventional particle foams — like EPS — with agricultural-waste-derived carbon and a bio-based vegetable oil matrix, expanded using food-grade acid-base blowing agents.

The result replicates the cellular, insulating structure the cold chain industry already relies on — engineered from renewable inputs instead of fossil ones.

01

Solar capture. Oilseed crops use photosynthesis to draw atmospheric CO₂ into plant-derived triglycerides and fatty acids — the same feedstock we use in place of petroleum.

02

Renewable, non-toxic supply chain. The finished composite is manufactured entirely from this renewable, non-toxic input chain — no petrochemical foam precursors.

03

Home-compostable. At end of life, the polymer biodegrades under ambient home-composting conditions rather than persisting as landfill waste.

04

Back to soil. Biodegradation leaves a high-carbon residue that integrates into soil, improving organic matter and nutrient retention.

End of life

Designed to return to soil, not a landfill.

Vegetable oil is an effective way to store solar energy: crops sequester CO₂ while growing, and release a broadly equivalent amount when the material breaks down — an approximately carbon-neutral cycle. We're transparent that a full life-cycle view, including farming, processing and distribution, typically shows a modest net footprint rather than zero.

What we can engineer directly is what happens after use: a composite that biodegrades at home rather than sitting in landfill for decades the way expanded polystyrene does.

Why it performs

Optimised functional efficacy, minimised ecological footprint

Three properties the material was engineered around — each one traded off against conventional EPS foam, not against performance.

01

Flexible, machinable, and quick to process into finished packaging components.

CORE

High strength-to-weight ratio, strong thermal insulation performance, and moisture-buffering properties.

02

Built on a bio-oil renewable energy source, in place of petroleum-derived feedstock.

Strategic collaboration

Developed with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

Absolute Cold LLP has entered a technology licensing and development partnership with the laboratory of Prof. Suryasarathi Bose, Department of Materials Engineering, IISc — for a proprietary Bio-PU (bio-based polyurethane) foam platform.

Beyond EPS The IISc-developed Bio-PU platform delivers ultra-low thermal conductivity and enhanced insulation versus conventional expanded polystyrene — with inherent biodegradability.
Lab to line Our Pune manufacturing infrastructure took the platform from laboratory prototype to industrial-scale production.
Pharma-grade validation Passive cooling shippers built on this platform are validated for the stringent 2°C–8°C range required for vaccines and biologics.

About us

Three decades in cold chain. One new material for the next one.

Absolute Cold Sustainable LLP is the materials-science arm of Absolute Cold — a Pune-based cold chain packaging business built over 26+ years serving pharmaceutical exporters and manufacturers, and the company behind the DeepChilled product range.

Our story

From insulated boxes to a material science lab.

Absolute Cold began as a cold chain packaging specialist, engineering insulated shippers and PCM-based systems for pharmaceutical exporters and manufacturers across Pune and Maharashtra. That work sits behind DeepChilled, our product range covering Deep Chill+, Deep Chill−, IN-SAFE, CourierSAFE+ and thermal blankets.

Absolute Cold Sustainable LLP grew out of that same floor: two-plus decades of knowing exactly what a temperature-sensitive shipment needs, redirected at a harder problem — building that performance from renewable inputs instead of petroleum, and proving it at pharma-grade validation standards.

  • 26+ years in pharmaceutical cold chain packaging
  • DeepChilled — our consumer-facing product brand
  • Absolute Cold Sustainable LLP — our materials R&D arm
  • Manufacturing and scale-up based in Pune
01

Cold chain packaging, since day one. Insulated shippers, PCM systems and validated hold-time engineering for pharma clients.

02

DeepChilled launches. The same engineering, packaged as a defined product range for exporters and manufacturers to order directly.

03

A sustainability arm forms. Absolute Cold Sustainable LLP is set up to develop bio-based alternatives to petroleum particle foam.

04

IISc collaboration begins. A technology licensing partnership with Prof. Suryasarathi Bose's lab brings the Bio-PU platform from research to our production line.

What we do

Two decades of cold chain know-how, one shared engineering team

Absolute Cold and Absolute Cold Sustainable LLP work as one team across three connected disciplines.

01

Cold chain packaging

Insulated shippers and PCM-based systems engineered and validated for pharmaceutical exporters and manufacturers, sold under DeepChilled.

02

Sustainable materials R&D

Developing and testing bio-based Bio-PU foam as a direct, drop-in alternative to petroleum-based EPS insulation.

03

Manufacturing & scale-up

Our Pune infrastructure takes formulations from lab prototype to industrial production, ready for real pharma supply chains.

What we hold ourselves to

Validated performance, honestly reported sustainability

Pharma-grade reliability

Every packaging solution is built around validated hold times and the temperature ranges pharmaceutical shipments actually require — not lab-only conditions.

Renewable by design

We build from agricultural-waste-derived and bio-based vegetable oil inputs, and design for home-compostability at end of life — not just recyclability on paper.

Science, not marketing

Our sustainability claims are grounded in a real technology licensing partnership with IISc Bangalore and full life-cycle transparency, including its trade-offs.

Where we work

Based in Pune, built for pharma supply chains across India.
